In this second installment of “Beans”, join us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Robert Townsend’s “Hollywood Shuffle” (released March 20, 1987). We’ll follow-up with a story swap, allowing attendees share concrete examples of the tools we use to affect change.
Having limited resources and a bounty of drive and creativity, Townsend’s guerilla-style production challenges the cinematic status quo, as he drops the audience into the multi-dimensional life of aspiring actor, Bobby Taylor, who has to navigate Hollywood’s single-dimensioned, mainstream minefield. Will he become famous? If so, at what cost to him, his immediate family, and the larger community?
Townsend brings film to the fight. What do you have? What’s in your toolbox?
